I Chevelle nascono nel 1995 in Illinois.
La band era inizialmente formata dai fratelli Pete e Sam Loeffler e dell'amico comune Matt Scott. Al posto di Scott, si sono avvicendati diversi bassisti, ma nella formazione finale, al basso vi è Dean Bernardini, fratello adottivo dei Loeffler.
Gli album in studio all'attivo sono attualmente 5 ed è prevista l'uscita di un nuovo lp nel corso del 2011.
