I "Queens of the stone age" , creatura del chitarrista Josh Homme nascono nel 1997.
Caratterizzati dall'etichetta di "stoner" band, hanno all'attivo 5 albun in studio e un live.
La band nasce dalle ceneri dei Kyuss. Dopo lo scioglimento del gruppo nel 1997, 3 fuoriusciti (inizialmente solo Homme e il batetrista Alfredo Hernandez, ai quali si aggiunse poco dopo il bassista Nick Olivieri) decisero di formare i Queens of the stone age e pubblicarono (l'anno seguente) l'omonimo album.
La storia della band è caratterizzata da continui cambi di formazione, con il solo Homme come membro fisso: nel corso degli anni al suo fianco si sono alternati artisti di assoluto livello quali Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters), il cantante Mark Lanegan (Screeming Trees, Soulsavers, Gutter Twins), Troy Van Leeuwen (A perfect circle). Inutile sottolineare pero', che l'anima del gruppo è Homme, in grado di amalgamare artisti di indubbia qualità e produrre degli autentici capolavori.
Nota per gli amanti dei vinili: gli LP dei Qotsa sono ben valutati, soprattutto i primi , a causa della scarsa tiratura. Nel corso degli anni sono state messe in commercio molte copie contraffatte.
E' del 2011 la ristampa dell'album di esordio con l'aggiunta di 3 brani rispetto alla versione originale.
